Tales from the Imperfect Playground

Throughout her stories of misplaced toys, temper tantrums, and experiences as a physical education teacher, Christine offers observations that will ring true with all mothers. In short, this book offers a virtual high five to women for the gazillion things they manage to miraculously get done.

"It's the most wonderful time of the year..."

I have to admit this is my favorite time of year.  Obviously, I could do without the frigid New England temperatures, but there is something magical about this particular season.  It is only December 5th, and already my family and I have watched a few holiday favorites on TV---The Grinch and the Polar Express.  We have baked cookies for the past two nights and nestled our buns right onto the cozy couches.  As for the baked goods, don't be too impressed---I have a container of ready made cookie dough in my freezer.  My inner Martha Stewart comes alive by simply grabbing five chunks of chocolate chip cookie dough, placing them on a cookie sheet, and waiting twelve minutes until ready.  Impressive, I know.

Even though I have not made one holiday purchase, I am in immediate need of holiday greeting cards,  we have yet to purchase a Christmas tree, my house needs to be decorated from head to toe, and I am turning 38 at the end of this month.... I am going to focus on the beauty that this time of year brings: the lighted trees, the sounds of holiday music (I am finally ready to listen), and the complete innocence of children dreaming of Santa Clause or Harry Hanukkah arriving at their house.  I also love the get-togethers that allow us to embrace the people in our life that have brought us so much happiness the whole year through.  Honestly, I have not been doing shots.  I am not being delusional.  However, feel free to check back with me in a few weeks; my feelings may have changed drastically.  But for now, I will continue to sing ..."It's the most wonderful time of the year..."  Peace.

Book Review

Another great book review for Mother Daze at Upscale Baby.com:Laughing

Grateful Girl

Thanksgiving has arrived and I'm left wondering how it is possible that another year has flown by so quickly.  In December, I will celebrate my 38th birthday and can honestly say I don't feel a day older than 25.  Still, I'm thankful to be past that stage of my life.  Although I have indeed loved each phase of my existence here on mother Earth, I really am enjoying these most recent years.  I have a lot to be thankful for;  Happy husband, three kind young children (atleast most of the time), a job that I honestly love, friendships that have wrapped themselves around me and a family that, as complicated as they can be, provide me with a true sense of home.  While I certainly could fill this screen with complaints, moans and many, many groans (I've got those, too---don't be fooled), every once and a while I have to recognize the simple beauty that plays out in front of me on a daily basis.  Frequently, the "beauty" can be disguised and often very hard to notice among childish temper tantrums and the occasional down pour of toddler tears.  These potential parental hazards are never fun, but unfortunately an unavoidable part of the job we call "Mommy."  Yet, when reflecting on all the good that has come my way through the years, it is always important for me to share my gratitude.  So, to all of the people in my world that make my life happier, funnier, and just plain old sun-shinier... Thank you!  May your holiday season be filled with lots of laughter and love!
